When it was announced that Disney had decided to buy the rights to the Star Wars franchise and were planning on making a new Star Wars trilogy, there was mixed reactions from fans all over the world, especially after the poorly received Star Wars prequels. However, there are high hopes for the new trilogy, which will not be directed by just one person.
As you will all know by now, J.J. Abrams is the man directing Star Wars: Episode VII but he will then hand over the reins to Rian Johnson for Star Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars: Episode IX. Rian has now spoken about how excited he is to have the chance to work in the Star Wars Universe, teasing what he hopes to do with the movies.
Johnson explained, "I’m really excited about all the things I can’t tell you. The thought of it made me so completely joyfully happy. I wanted to to play in this world, of literally the first movie my dad put me in the car to see. With these films, I am trying to harken back to the original ‘Star Wars’...Christmas special. We do have Jefferson Starship!"
The new Star Wars trilogy will see the return of many original Star Wars cast members, including the main trio of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Star Wars: Episode VII will open on December 18, 2015 in both the US and the UK, while Star Wars: Episode VIII is expected to open in 2016, with Star Wars: Episode IX then opening in 2017, although they have yet been officially confirmed.
