It seems that the casting of Batman for the planned Man of Steel sequel is well underway. While the movie is still being spoken of as a Man of Steel sequel, it will see Batman enter the fold, as Warner Bros. and DC edge closer to a Justice League movie.
It has already been confirmed that David S. Goyer will be back on board to write the new movie, with Zack Snyder back in the directors seat and Henry Cavill returning to play Clark Kent aka Superman. So, the next step for the Man of Steel sequel is to cast Bruce Wayne aka Batman.
It has now been claimed that The Hobbit actor Richard Armitage is the front-runner to play Batman, as Warner Bros. look to cast an older Caped Crusader. A supposed source has revealed, "Richard is in with a real shout. He is well liked and has the skills to portray the dark and light in the Wayne/Batman character."
With the new Batman being described as a "grizzled veteran who has been on the job for several years," Richard Armitage could well be the perfect choice for the role. The new Batman/Superman movie is expected to be released sometime in 2015.
