Using the Grand Sheik Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi as a backdrop, pop singer Rihanna posed for what she considered to be a few conservatively-dressed photos. However, the even more conservative religious leaders of this tiny Middle-Eastern country deemed them inappropriate and asked the American singer to vacate the premises.

Her raunchy performances are often subject of discussion
Even though the singer was covered from head-to-toe with a black outfit, complete with a matching hijab, her ruby-red lipstick and poses were deemed to be in violation of the strict dress and conduct codes set down by the mosque’s administrator. The pictures she took did not conform to the regulations put in place to protect the mosque’s sanctity, a mosque official said, and therefore she was asked to leave without ever seeing the inside of the sanctuary.
Built in 2007, and named after the country’s founder, the Grand Sheik Zayed Mosque is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and thus is a popular attraction for tourists. Too bad Rihanna never got to see the inside of the landmark.

Rihanna recently visited the UAE
However, Rihanna’s disappointing visit and unceremonious expulsion from the holy site notwithstanding, Rihanna did go on to perform in the capitol as scheduled. She dubbed the attire she wore for the performance as “Empress RiRi.”
