Not too long ago, there were plenty of discussions about Luther actor Idris Elba being the first ever black James Bond but now, it appears that Idris may have competition for the role. Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would love to go into acting when he retires.

Rio has opened up about the sort of roles that he would like to play and, as well as claiming that he could take over from Idris Elba as Luther, he also stated that he thought he would be capable of becoming the first black James Bond.
While talking to FourFourTwo magazine, Ferdinand explained, “I'd go for an emotional part, something off the wall. I've got too much for a henchman role. I'd need for it to be, I dunno, like Luther. Or if they're looking for a new James Bond, I wouldn't say that's out of my comfort zone at all.”

While a black James Bond being cast in the future is not out of the question, it is extremely unlikely that Rio Ferdinand would ever get to play the part. Although, he has been doing a great job of playing a professional footballer for years now ... Ba-dum tishhhhhhh!
