It is fair to say that, going into every major international tournament, there is always high expectations on England, since it is the birthplace of football and they do have the biggest and best league in the world. However, these expectations are never met and the England team always come up short, none more so than at World Cup 2014.
England have been knocked out of World Cup 2014 in Brazil, with a group game still left to play, their worst performance for decades now. This has led to huge pressure from the fans for the English FA to sack manager Roy Hodgson and bring in a new man, with new ideas. So, will Roy actually get sacked as England manager.
Well, Roy Hodgson signed a four-year deal with England, which would take him to Euro 2016 and, according to the English Football Association Chairman Greg Dyke, it looks like Roy will see that contract out. Dyke explained, "We are supportive of Roy. I already see people asking the question, 'Will he stay?' The answer is yes. He came to do a four-year cycle leading up to Euro 2016. There are a lot of young players who got blooded here and got into tournament football."
While a whole host of the England football fans have been calling for Roy Hodgson to get sacked, the England manager has received plenty of support from his fellow professionals, especially former striker Alan Shearer, who has claimed that there is not a manager available who could do a better job.
Do you think Roy Hodgson should be sacked as England manager?
