Actor Ryan Reynolds' film "The Captive" was booed mercilessly at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival but interestingly his performance was considered to be quite impressive even if the movie was not well received. The movie was about a child abduction that took place and left the parents tormented for 8 years until evidence arose that she might be alive and provided hope to her missing father played by him.
His performance in the film was praised by some even though the film was not appreciated. Interestingly movie critics and entertainment insiders believe that he is on the right 'track' for his career and feel that he should continue taking on more character-driven roles and less romantic-comedies.
His career might need to follow the path of Matthew McConaughey who actually removed himself from the spotlight and started redefining himself as a dramatic actor in independent films as he focused on character roles and the same move might be in the best interest of Ryan Reynolds.
The media was recently abuzz with speculation that Blake Lively, the wife of Ryan Reynolds might be pregnant but their appearance at Cannes ended that rumour as she looked spectacular in a nude coloured, form-fitting floor length gown from Gucci which she wore beside him in his Gucci velvet tux with bow tie.
However, while they are not yet expecting a child it is something that he does want as does she and spending time with his family away from the spotlight is something that can help rejuvenate the career and provide one the opportunity to make acting choices based on what roles the actor wants and not what one's advisors or others might recommend.
The booing of Ryan Reynolds new film "The Captive" may have hurt in the short term but it should not change his new direction in terms of him taking character roles because as the critics have noted, his acting performance was impressive even if the film as whole was not in their eyes.
