After filing for bankruptcy last month, Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas has told pals he is determined to bounce back. The stars financial woes follow a petition made by HM Revenue and Customs in a dispute over unpaid taxes.
In spite of earning a decent salary of around £90,000 a year, equivalent to over $140,000, Ryan now finds himself in financial difficulties. The actor, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw in the popular UK soap, has enjoyed the high-life for several years and has been photographed enjoying luxuries such as foreign holidays and expensive champagne. He now faces criticism from the media and the public alike for not paying his taxes, especially as he is still driving around in a posh black Range Rover.
To add to his problems, Ryan Thomas is linked to a tax avoidance scheme. He is a former director of Romangate Limited. This is the same company used by fellow Coronation Street actor Bill Roache and comedian Jimmy Carr to avoid taxes.
Although his friends and colleagues are worried about him, Ryan says that he is fine and determined not to let the situation get him down. Ryan has a four-year-old daughter, Scarlett, with former Coronation Street actress, Tina O'Brien. Although the pair split in 2009, Ryan still pays an active role in his daughter's life and now faces concerns over offering financial support for her.
