When it was first announced that Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D TV show would star Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, it was assumed that the show would be taking place before ‘The Avengers’ due to the fact that Agent Coulson dies in the movie.
However, ABC’s president Paul Lee confirmed [via IGN] that the show will be taking place after ‘The Avengers’, not before like everyone thought.
At the TCAs, he said, “There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York. [...]This is S.H.I.E.L.D. They're following their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly come from Avengers. So it's part of the world, but we're going to be very, very careful that we don't tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world. And that's what Joss Whedon does better than anybody else. He's built a world for us."
I don’t know how they are going to make this part of our world if they somehow manage to resurrect Agent Coulson from the dead, but then again, it’s a comic book world where anything can happen. The show is currently in pre-production and should be airing between the 2013-2014 network season on ABC.
