There was quite a shock for James Bond fans when they turned up to watch Skyfall and did not see the famous gunbarrel at the beginning of the movie. Instead, Sam Mendes had decided to put the gunbarrel at the end of the film and has given his reasons why.

Famous James Bond gunbarrel
Mendes said at the Meet the Filmmaker' Q&A at Apple's Regent Street store, “I tried very hard to [place] it at the beginning, my intention was always to do that. If you see the film, the film starts with Bond walking down a corridor towards camera and lifting a gun. The gunbarrel is him walking, stopping and lifting a gun. When I put the two together it looked ridiculous - shoot the gun already! We tried and couldn't make it work.”
He added, "I won't give away why I think it works very well at the end, but it just worked out that way because of the Bond theme and all that sort of stuff. I remember when I was a kid thinking that [the gunbarrel] was almost the best bit. Everything is possible in that moment, it's like Christmas Eve!”

Daniel Craig as James Bond
Sam Mendes has been receiving rave reviews since the release of Skyfall and the James Bond producers are keen for him to return to direct another 007 flick. However, Sam has decided not to make a decision on his James Bond directing future until he has had time to think about it.
