Saoirse Ronan has had a busy couple of years - in addition to filming The Host, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and How I Live Now, she's been promoting Byzantium, and getting ready for pre-production on Ryan Gosling's How To Catch A Monster, as well as her upcoming 'Mary Queen of Scots'. In a new interview with the Telegraph, Ronan explains that it's a great time to be working as a young actress, and reveals which other actresses she wants to work with.
She says, "A lot of the films that are being released right now are centred on young women and strong women. I’d love to work with Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone because they are fantastic. I think it is a good time to be in the company of other people who don’t want to sexualise themselves or objectify themselves."
Stone and Lawrence are considered two of the most critically acclaimed and universally beloved young actresses right now, and they've managed to create the perfect storm of box office appeal and awards acclaim. However, while Saoirse is loved by the critics and has a passionate fan base, she has yet to really get mainstream box office appeal. Her agents were probably hoping that 'The Host' would do that for her, but unfortunately the film did terrible at the box office [earning $11 million on opening weekend], and it probably won't do for her what 'The Hunger Games' did for Jennifer Lawrence and 'The Amazing Spider-Man' did for Emma Stone.
However, Saoirse's career path is most looking to emulate that of Cate Blanchett, who stars in critically acclaimed films and has gained attention through a different route.
