While we have been really spoilt with the amount of top television shows we have been given in recent years, there have also been plenty that have got away, after failing to impress with their pilot episode and being rejected on that basis. Every year, we see a number of pilot episodes of shows being turned down and, while some do manage to move on and be picked up somewhere else, many end up being dropped completely.
Which brings us to the planned reboot of the iconic character Nancy Drew, which sees the beautiful and talented actress Sarah Shahi taking on the lead role. It was expected that this new Nancy Drew television series would be picked up by CBS but, after a long and agonising deliberation, the top dogs at CBS decided not to take on the show.
According to the reports, the many reason that CBS passed on taking Nancy Drew to a full season, was because they felt that it was far too female in approach, for their schedule. It is claimed that the Nancy Drew pilot did test well but, due to the femaleness of the pilot episode, CBS decided against it, and will offer it out to other networks.
The Nancy Drew show has been developed by the Grey’s Anatomy showrunners Joan Rater and Tony Phelan, while the pilot episode also starred such talented actors as Anthony Edwards, Felix Solis and Rob McClure. It will now be interesting to see whether Nancy Drew does get picked up somewhere else and, if not, then where Sarah Shahi will take her acting career next.
