It was the biggest night on the Hollywood award season calendar last night, as the stars came out in force to celebrate the 86th Academy Awards and the night turned out to be a huge success. As is always the case with any awards ceremony, there can only be one winner, while there are always plenty of losers and even some stars who do not even get a nomination.
The movie Her proved to be a huge hit, with actress Scarlett Johansson playing a voice role in the movie and, while she did manage to get across personality and emotion, it was not really considered acting by everyone. It was for that reason that Scarlett was overlooked for an Oscar nomination this year, although Her director Spike Jonze was very impressed with what she did.
Spike was back stage at the Oscars 2014, when he explained, "I don't know enough about how the Academy decides that. All I know is I saw what she did, and I loved what she did, and I was moved and affected by and watching her create that character even though it was just in a voice."
While Scarlett Johansson did not even manage to get an Oscar nomination, things went better for Spike Jonze last night. Not only was he nominated for an Oscar but he also managed to take home the Best Original Screenplay Oscar 2014, much to the surprise of a lot of people who had tipped David O. Russell to take the award for American Hustle.
Do you think Scarlett Johansson deserved an Oscar nomination for Her?
