The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to get bigger and better ever year, with a number of new characters being introduced to the big screen every year. With the enormity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe these days, you would expect that there would be a fair amount strong female characters involved but this is not the case at all.
Scarlett Johansson plays Black Widow

Comic book movie fans have been calling for Marvel to bring some of their bigger female characters to the big screen and, while it is likely that this will happen over time, for now we will have to do with the ones we already have. The biggest female character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now would have to be Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson.

Scarlett Johansson has already appeared as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, while she will also reprise the role for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which opens on March 28 in the UK and April 4 in the US, and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opens on May 1, 2015 in both the US and the UK.

Now it looks like Scarlett Johansson is about to go one better and, rather than popping up in other characters movies, Marvel are planning to make a Black Widow stand-alone film. Marvel studio president Kevin Feige has long been a fan of Black Widow and has been talking about the prospect of a stand-alone Black Widow film since 2010.

As of now, the Black Widow movie is just in the very early stages of development and there is no real news on the project but it does look like we will see Scarlett Johansson in a Black Widow film in the next few years.
