It seems that Hollywood simply cannot get enough of giving us remakes, reboots, sequels and prequels, playing into the hands of those who feel that there is a lack of originality in Hollywood these days. However, if a formula is working and making money, then why would they turn their back on it? It is no surprise then that we have plenty more remakes coming our way in the coming years.
One of the upcoming movie remakes that is being planned and is coming from Universal, is the remake of the 1954 horror classic Creature from the Black Lagoon, which is now looking to begin casting the lead roles. While there is no word yet of which actor will play the prehistoric man-fish that the title describes, it has been reported that actress Scarlett Johansson is wanted for the female lead in the film.
The remake of Creature of the Black Lagoon already has plenty of big names attached behind the scenes, with the project being produced by Robin Bissell, Marc Abraham, Eric Newman, and Gary Ross, while Gary has also been involved in the screenwriting process along with Jeff Blitz, Tedi Sarafian, and Paul Schering.
It has also been claimed that the remake of Creature of the Black Lagoon will be a part of Universal's plans to have a shared monster universe, which will also see the likes of The Mummy remake, as well as last year's Dracula Untold. We cannot wait to see how all of this pans out, especially if Scarlett Johansson does sign up to the project!
