Divergent actress Shailene Woodley has become one of the most talked about stars in Hollywood over the course of the past year or so, and a lot of this is down to her playing the lead role of Tris in the big screen adaptation of Divergent. Since Divergent is very similar to The Hunger Games, there have naturally been comparisons between Shailene and The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence.
The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence is considered one of the biggest and best actresses in Hollywood at the moment, so you would think that being compared to her would be a huge compliment. However, this does not seem to be the case for Shailene Woodley, who has stated that she does not like the comparisons, as she feels she is her own person.
Shailene was talking to New York Magazine, when she explained, "Well, comparisons always lead to despair. As women, we are constantly told that we need to compare ourselves to a girl in school, to our co-workers, to the images in a magazine. How is the world going to advance if we're always comparing ourselves to others?"
Woodley added, "I admire Jennifer Lawrence, but she's everyone's favorite person to compare me to. Is it because we both have short hair and a vagina? I see us as separate individuals. And that's important. As women, our insecurities are based on all these comparisons. And that creates distress."
While Shailene Woodley does not like the comparisons to Jennifer Lawrence, there is no doubt that these comparisons are going to continue, as we still have two more The Hunger Games movies due out, while Shailene is currently filming the Divergent sequel, which is titled Insurgent and will open on March 20, 2015.
