While many people were referring to Divergent as the new The Hunger Games there are actually a lot of differences between the two movies and, in all honesty, Divergent is not quite in the same league as The Hunger Games. With that said, Divergent has proved a fairly successful film, managing to gross $209m worldwide so far, so it is no surprise that the sequel is already good to get underway.
For those of you who are not familiar with the books, the Divergent sequel is titled Insurgent and sees things move up a gear, especially on the relationship front. Shailene Woodley returns to her role of Tris for Insurgent, while Theo James is back as Four, and the relationship between the two begins to get much more serious.
There has been a lot of talk about the relationship between Shailene Woodley and Theo James off-screen with many claiming that the two are now dating in real life. However, these claims have also been denied with suggestions that they are just good friends. Either way, we are looking forward to seeing how Insurgent can kick on from Divergent and take the franchise to the next level.
Things in Insurgent are bound to be different from that of Divergent since there is a new director at the helm. Robert Schwentke has signed on to direct Insurgent, taking over from the departing Neil Burger. Insurgent is expected to being filming any time now with the movie set for release on March 20, 2015. Meanwhile, the third instalment of the franchise is titled Allegiant and will get released in two parts. The first part will open on March 18, 2016, with part two hitting the big screen in 2017.
