Singer Shakira recently won a spot on President Barack Obama’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, as she attempts to help improve the education of Latino’s. Shakira has already helped set up schools in Haiti, South Africa and Colombia.
Shakira said of the current state of the Latino youth, “Latino youth are the fastest-growing group in America, yet more Latino children are living in poverty than children of any other ethnic group.” Shakira then added, “The only road out of poverty is education.”
Back in June of this year, Shakira headed to Israel, where she was involved in a children’s education conference. It was recently revealed that Shakira will be awarded with the Latin Grammy Person of the Year Award, which she was delighted about.
