What would the 2014 Winter Olympics be like without the presence of America’s own Shaun White, aka “The Flying Tomato?” This professional skateboarder/snowboarder is one of the world’s elite athletes and he is proving that his prowess on those snowy slopes has not yet disappeared. Unlike many of the competitors who have retired early White is still ready to test his skills once again.
It has now been 8 years since Shaun White won that very first medal. Eight years can extract a severe toll on any athlete but The Flying Tomato is certain that he is up for the challenge. There have been injuries to his ankles which have kept him from winning in recent months but White still qualified as the Number One contender for the United States’ Olympic team. So strong is his athletic record that his name is entered for both the half-pipe and the slope-style snowboarding competitions.
Shaun shares his progress with fans via Twitter feeds and Facebook updates. He has recently chopped off his flowing locks of red hair and added the Double Cork 1440 to his bag of awesome snowboard routines. Fans have been able to watch videos of this latest maneuver online. White has been training with coaches and team members in Australia and happily downloads photos and films for his devoted followers to enjoy.
There are many new names that will be entered in this year’s Olympic events but you can be sure that Shaun White will be leading the pack. White wants to add one or two more gold medals to his trophy case and he is going to pull out all of the stops in his quest to lay claim to the title of best snowboarder in the world.
