British entertainment veteran Cilla Black is not seen on our television screens half as much as she used to be but that does not mean that she has been forgotten by any means. A new project is being made about the life of Cilla Black, which is being simply titled Cilla, with the project set to air on ITV later in the year.
English actress Sheridan Smith, who is probably best known for her work on the hit series Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, will play the role of Cilla Black in the biopic and it seems that the casting has gone down well with the star. Cilla has spoken about Sheridan, admitting she feels Smith is the perfect choice.
Black explained, "I love her. She's fabulous. We went to dinner and I gave her my cell phone number. I said, 'If you ever fall down on anything and you want a little of advice', but she hasn't phoned me yet, so everything must be going swimmingly."
Meanwhile, Cilla went on to joke that she is worried that she might die at some point this year, as they ony tend to do biopics about those who are dead, "I'm very flattered. I read the script and loved it. It's really a love story between Bobby and I. They only do [a] tribute [usually] when you're dead, so [maybe] I'm going to die this year. I am of an age."
As well as starring Sheridan Smith as Cilla Black, Cilla will also star Aneurin Barnard as Bobby Willis, Jack Farthing as John Lennon, Daniel Pirrie as Burt Bacharach, and Kevin Mains as Paul McCartney. Cilla will air on ITV later in the year.
