Shia LaBeouf is intent on moving away from roles such as his in 'Transformers' and taking on trickier roles. And this looks set to continue as rumour has it he's rising up the list of favourites to be cast as Christian Grey in the film version of 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.
The reason for his surge up the list of those being considered is due to his taking of another raunchy role in Lars Von Trier's 'Nymphomaniac', a part that may see the actor have actual sex on screen!
The website Policymic calls Shia "one of the strongest contenders yet" for the role, and fans may get behind the actor as he's one of the few with both blockbuster and independent movie experience who could be in with a shot.
Others speculated to be in with a shot are Ian Somerhalder, Robert Pattinson, Matt Bomer and Ryan Gosling. However, the writer tipped to pen the screenplay for the movie - Brett Easton Ellis - has been left out of those is consideration, indicating that the favourites are in no way a dead cert for this movie.
As for the female lead as Anastasia Steele, Emma Watson, Lucy Hale, Alexis Bladel and Anna Kendrick have all been talked about as possibilities, while Kristen Stewart looks to have dropped off the radar after her much publicised affair.
Yet producers may be worried that Shia could cause a few problems on set, as he recently admitted that his drinking on the set of new movie 'Lawless' almost scared off castmate Mia Wasikowska.
Having starred in the likes of Steven Spielberg's 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' and Oliver Stone's 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps', Shia would likely have some of Hollywood's biggest names ready to back him. He has, however, fallen out with Spielberg in recent times.
Author E.L. James and producers Dana Brunetti and Mike DeLuca are yet to express a preference as to who should play Christian Grey.
