There was recently an article posted by the Guardian, which seemed to have a bit of a dig at Sia since she is someone who does not feel comfortable with her fame, yet helped to catapult a young child into superstardom. That child is, of course, the wonderfully talented 15-year-old star Maddie Ziegler who has shown a huge amount of promise and potential in recent years.
Maddie Ziegler was already one of the young stars of the hit television series Dance Moms, when Sia decided to use her for her music videos, which boosted her profile immensely. Now, following this recent article from the Guardian, Sia has decided to respond to the piece, insisting that she is very protective of Maddie and that she would stop if she felt things were not going well.
Sia explained, "This article poses a question I have asked myself often. I do check in with Maddie weekly about whether she wants this, and assure her if she ever wants it to stop it stops. It’s a conversation we should all be having. Not just myself but all directors, stage parents and agents with their children, clients, charges. Maddie was already famous when I discovered her, but I have certainly expanded her exposure and feel responsible for that."
She added, "I feel very protective of her and my goal is to empower her in whatever choices she makes. Some would argue a teenager can’t or shouldn’t be charged with making sound choices for themselves and so I do try to choose the best for her always. But I think this is an important conversation. What I learned from Maddie is that fame affects her differently than how it affected me. I can only trust that she is telling me the truth. If that changes, we stop."
With Maddie Ziegler now 15 years old and having someone as experienced and knowledgable as Sia on her team, we have no doubt that she will be able to cope with the pressures of being so famous and will grow to become a huge star in her own right.
