Out of all the actors in 'The Bling Ring', Emma Watson was easily the only household name. Although Taissa Farmiga might have sparked some recognition from fans of American Horror Story, the others - Israel Broussard, Claire Julien, and Katie Chang - were basically newcomers. Obviously, the adult cast included Gavin Rossdale and Leslie Man, but Watson was the only young star that could be instantly recognized.
However, and kudos to her, she left all traces of Harry Potter's Hermione Granger behind as she transformed into a stuck up valley girl for The Bling Ring. Director Sofia Coppola covers the latest issue of Vogue Australia and Interview Magazine for the film's international expansion, and she discusses how important it was that Emma Watson was not recognizable in her movie.
She explained, "That’s important because I don’t like when actors stand out. I find it distracting when there’s a famous actor in a film. So I’m glad she blended in.”
'The Bling Ring' has been doing very well in theaters, and is due to expand internationally over the next month. The film's performances have been getting strong reviews, especially Emma Watson for her spot-on portrayal of Nicki.
