When it was announced that we would be seeing some more of the X-Men characters from the original trilogy being recast with younger stars, there was instantly a lot of talk about which stars should be cast in which role. Then, it was recently confirmed that Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner has been cast in the role of Jean Grey and, while talking about her new role, Sophie admitted that she was going to channel her inner Famke Janssen.
While chatting to the good folks over at Access Hollywood, Turner explained, "She was amazing. So, I'm really trying to emulate her, because she did such a great job and I just hope I do justice to this incredible character. It should be fun."
As well as talking about wanting to try to emulate the performances given by Famke Janssen in the original X-Men trilogy, Sophie Turner also went on to talk about how she found out that she had landed the role of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse. Sophie says that the news came at quite a bad time, as it managed to mess up an audition that she was heading to at the time.
Turner added, "I was getting out of the car to walk in to the audition. And then my agent started ringing and she was like 'Have you heard the news?' 'No, what news?' Then she was like 'Check your Twitter'. So then I checked it and… I was just getting like, 'Congratulations Jean Grey.' Then I just started crying and I messed up the whole audition because I was just like, 'I can't speak!'"
As well as recently discovering that Sophie Turner will play Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse we also found out that Tye Sheridan will play Scott Summers aka Cyclops, while actress Alexandra Shipp will play Ororo Monroe aka Storm. X-Men: Apocalypse will open on May 19, 2016 in the UK and on May 27, 2016 in the US, and we cannot wait to see what these new stars will bring to these familiar roles.
Do you think Sophie Turner will make a good Jean Grey?
