It had previously been reported that the sequel to the 2009 reboot of the Star Trek franchise, was set to be released on June 29 2012. However, that release date has now been put back, allowing writers Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci extra time to work on the script, along with J.J. Abrams.

Abrams, who is expected to direct the Star Trek sequel, has admitted that he does not want to rush the script, just to get the movie out in time and screenwriter Lindelof echoed those words by confessing that he wants Star Trek 2 to have a great story.
It now looks like Star Trek 2 will be hitting the big screen sometime towards the end of 2012 or could even stretch over to 2013. However, Paramount have confirmed that the date of June 29, 2012 is not set to be completely wasted, as G.I. Joe: Retaliation will now be released on that date. Not all bad news then.
