The upcoming ninth season of The Office is set to be the show’s last season, and many were hoping that Steve Carell would return for one last episode before it went off the air.
Executive Producer Greg Daniels had originally said that they hoped that Carell would return for the finale of the show, saying, “We certainly wish Michael Scott would return. But we’re not going to put pressure on Steve to write something only he could do.”
However, NBC’s Bob Greenblatt then spoke after an executive meeting and said [via Deadline], “We’re hopeful but I don’t think (Carell) will. He left in the way he wanted to leave, and he and Greg talked about it, and I don’t think he will. There’s maybe a little Hail Mary pass on a cameo, but I think the decision would be compromising his schedule.”
‘The Office’ is the show that shot Carell to stardom, and ever since his departure from the show, it’s lacked its usual verve and has lot quite a lot of viewers. Despite that, Carell’s schedule is quite busy, with 5 movies set to release in 2013, and a couple more in pre-production. He is currently filming ‘Foxcatcher’ with Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, and Mark Ruffalo.
