Taylor Swift has a new interview with Twist Magazine, and in it she talks about relationships and boys. Swift’s dating life has been in scrutiny lately as news of her reported break-up with Connor Kennedy became tabloid fodder.
However, the scrutiny in part comes from Swift’s own take on her relationships, especially through her songs. By Swift’s own admittance, her songs are almost all written based on her relationships and boyfriends, and it’s easy for the fans and the general public alike to guess who the songs are about.
In the interview, Swift says that if there’s a major lesson that she’s learned about dating, it’s that you don’t let the boyfriend become your life. You can prioritize them, but not to the extent that they’re all that matter. She says, ““My advice about guys has to do with how you prioritize them. They can be a part of your life but never let the guy BE your life. They can live in your world, but never make the guy your world. Knowing who you are and being independent and strong will be attractive to the right guy. Trying too hard to impress a guy or putting him before your friends and family shows you’re not OK with who you are. One of my goals is always to be OK with who I am aside from love and boys.”
