After the huge failure of the attempted Wonder Woman television series, the idea of a new show dedicated to the character has been met with scepticism. While Amazon is more about the early years of the character, there is still a concern that it will not live up to expectations.
However, now The CW president Mark Pedowitz has opened up about the show, admitting that they are still searching for their lead actress. He also admitted that Amazon is set to be more of an origins story, in a similar vein to that of Smallville.
Pedowitz explained, “We’re waiting to see the script and are busy casting Diana.” He also went on to confirm that Amazon will be in no way affiliated with the heavily criticised David E Kelley Wonder Woman series, I have not seen David’s project [but] this is an origination story [like] Smallville],” Mark added.
He continued, “Arrow’s success, when you have Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg as your showrunners, that has a lot to do with that success and we hope Allan Heinberg will have the same success with what Amazon will be. But it does help, in terms of that.”
While Amazon is still in the pre-production phases, Arrow is currently half way through its first season and is set to return to The CW on January 16.
