Since the award winning movie The Fighter was released in 2010, many have questioned whether a sequel to the movie would ever be made. However, boxing fans have been praying that The Fighter 2 will be made and will focus on the super fights between Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti.
Now it seems that a sequel could be very likely to happen, after Mark Wahlberg expressed a definite interest in making it happen. Mark explained, “We left out the Arturo Gatti fights for a reason…Because that’s for ‘Fighter 2′. We’re not going to do ‘Fighter’ 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, but we’re gonna do 2. We’re gonna do the Ward/Gatti trilogy.”
All three of the Ward/Gatti fights were all out wars, which went the distance, with one of the fights being announced 2002 Ring magazine fight of the year, while the last was awarded 2003 Ring magazine fight of the year. However, getting the whole cast to commit to returning will not be easy as the stars involved (Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Melissa Leo) all have busy schedules. While the film does look set to happen, do not expect to see it any time before 2014 or later.
