Yoda is a small but wise and powerful Jedi teacher and leader in the Star Wars films. Since first appearing in the Empire Strikes Back he come to be an iconic figure in the Star Wars series and for million of fans all over the world.
Frank Oz is the actor that provides the voice and the previous puppet motions for this character. However, he no longer uses a puppet to play the role of Yoda since Lucas has decided to use CGI technology to bring Yoda to life. Star Wars fans protested the switch but Frank Oz himself says that Lucas needed to switch the character over to CGI technology in order to meet the demands of the modern filming era.
Even though Oz doesn’t get to animate Yoda through strings and motions he still continues to lend his voice to the character. Yoda is such a sensation in the Star Wars films that many speculate about him having a movie that caters specifically to his persona. Frank Oz trusts Lucas’ insight and does not mind if he decides to make a film that focuses on his life.
Frank Oz still continues to use his puppeteer techniques for the Muppets but he also realizes that technology has evolved significantly beyond the traditional forms of animation. As long as Yoda remains popular and still remains relevant, Frank Oz will continue to provide his voice and talents to this little green Jedi Master.
