There are a lot of people who feel that Hollywood has lost a lot of its originality over the past few years, with a whole host of remakes, reboots, prequels and sequels being made but, while there are some sequels that have fallen well short of the first movie, with some sequels that were not even needed, there are some sequels that fans still want to have. Here we take a look at some of the movie sequels that fans have been calling for, for some time now.

Fans would love a Cloverfield sequel
One of the most wanted movie sequels of all time would have to be The Goonies 2 and there has been a lot of talk about the possibility of a sequel being made, ever since The Goonies hit the big screen way back in 1985. Back in April 2014, it was confirmed by The Goonies director Richard Donner that he and Steven Spielberg were working on The Goonies sequel but we are still awaiting progress on the project. Don't hold your breath for The Goonies 2 any time soon.
Next up we have the movie District 9, which proved to be quite the hit with fans, was relatively successful at the box office, and even left the door open for a sequel at the end of the movie. The movie Sharlto Copley's antihero Wikus van der Merwe was so badly mutated that he was unrecognisable, it is hinted that he is still alive, while there was also a suggestion of a cure being available for him in three years. Meanwhile, director Neil Blomkamp has previously stated that he wants to do a District 9 sequel but it could be a quite a few years before we do finally get one.

A District 9 sequel has been teased
Finally we have the film Cloverfield, which developed quite a strong, loyal fanbase, following its release in 2008, which led to calls for a Cloverfield sequel to get made. Since then, there has been plenty of talk about the possibility of Cloverfield 2 being made but, just like the other two movies, there has been no real progress on it actually happening. It was thought that Matt Reeves would return to direct, with J.J. Abrams back as producer, while Drew Goddard would pen the screenplay but all three are busy with other, solid projects which leaves Cloverfield 2 in development hell.
