There had been a lot of discussion of the past week or so about whether or not The Hunger Games director Gary Ross would be returning to helm the sequel Catching Fire. There was a lot of will he, won’t he, going on before Gary finally released a statement admitting that he was leaving the project.

The news that Gary Ross will not be directing Catching Fire looks set to devastate The Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson, who seemed convinced that Gary would return. Josh was highly impressed with what Gary achieved with The Hunger Games and admitted that he could not imagine Catching Fire being directed by anyone else.
Hutcherson explained before Gary Ross released his statement, "There is not much doubt in my mind he'll be doing it. I think so. I don't think there's a chance he won't. He killed the first one, absolutely knocked it out of the park.

He added, “Everyone loved him. Myself, Jennifer and the others loved him. I couldn't imagine making another movie without him, so that's what I have to say about that.” Josh Hutcherson will be returning for Catching Fire and will be upset that Gary Ross will not be with him.
Lionsgate are now in search of a new director for Catching Fire.
