It seems that things are becoming very confusing regarding The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, as there have been a number of rumours regarding director Gary Ross. While it was believed that he had opted out of directing Catching Fire, it appears that that is not necessarily true.

It was first suggested that Lionsgate may have to look for another director, after Gary Ross wanted more money for Catching Fire than he received for The Hunger Games. Then it was claimed that Gary was not interested in money and would not be directing Catching Fire as he wanted to work on his own project.
However, it is not claimed that Gary Ross could still be set to direct Catching Fire, as he feels that he has close ties to The Hunger Games series. Gary worked closely with author Suzanne Collins for The Hunger Games and also suggested Simon Beaufoy to write the screenplay for Catching Fire.

A new director could possibly disrupt the harmony of proceedings and Lionsgate would love for Gary Ross to return to direct Catching Fire. So far though, nothing has yet to be officially confirmed and we will just have to wait and see what happens.
Catching Fire is expected to be released in 2013.
