It was reported earlier this week that The Hunger Games director Gary Ross had told Lionsgate that he would only return to direct The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, if they upped the amount they had paid him to direct the first movie. However, it appears that that is not exactly the case.
A production insider has apparently told The Playlist that Gary Ross is not interested in a big money offer, as he has no interest in returning to direct The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. Instead, he is going to work on a project that he has written himself.
It is no secret that Gary Ross is not a director that likes to stick to the same thing but it was thought that he may be tempted to return for Catching Fire. Now the hunt is on for Lionsgate to find a new director for Catching Fire, which is expected to start shooting this summer.
A script for Catching Fire has been penned by Oscar winning writer Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) but that script is expected to see a rewrite or two. Catching Fire will see the return of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth and is expected to be released in November 2013.
