It seems that more and more books are being developed for big screen adaptations, following the success of so many before them. We have had a whole host of books adapted into movies in the past few years and we have plenty more coming up.
Last year saw the release of the final instalment of the Twilight series, with Breaking Dawn - Part 2. This movie took over $800m at the box office, taking the total gross of the Twilight movie franchise to $3.28bn and that from a total budget of just $385m. However, it is argued that the acting in the Twilight movies was poor and some of the script did not do the book justice, with the majority of fans claiming that the books were better than the films.
Earlier in 2012, before the Twilight movie hit the big screen, we had The Hunger Games, which was another huge financial success. The Hunger Games was made on a budget of just $78m and has since gone on to make $693m worldwide. The Hunger Games had much better acting than Twilight and was well written but there were a few scenes cut out, which annoyed fans, so again, the book just edges out the movie.
Next up we have the movie The Host, which is expected to follow in the footsteps of Twilight and The Hunger Games and become a huge box office success. Yet if it is to follow in the footsteps of those previous movies, then it could be expected that the film will not quite live up to the book. With that said, it will not stop Hollywood adapting novels for the big screen, as they continue to bring in the big bucks.
What movies do you think are actually better than the books?
