So there it is, all over and done with. With the big build up and anticipation, the 2014 Oscars are now over and done with and we now know who has won what award at the biggest awards ceremony of the year. The show itself was regarded a success, especially after last year's disaster and we have a run-down of the big winners of the Academy Awards on the night.
Gravity was a big winner

There was a lot of talk about the battle for the Best Actor Oscar, with many feeling that it was too difficult to call, while others had Matthew McConaughey as the favourite for the award. The winner of the Best Actor Oscar 2014 was Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club.

Following that, the Best Actress Oscar was also a very tightly contested award, with things too close to call, although it did seem that Cate Blanchett was the favourite for her role in Blue Jasmine. The winner of the Best Actress Oscar 2014 was indeed Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine.
12 Years a Slave was a big winner
12 Years a Slave was a big winner

The Best Supporting Actor Oscar was possibly the most interesting categories of the night, as all five men nominated for the award have never won an Oscar, with only two of the actors being nominated in the past. The winner of the Best Supporting Actor Oscar 2014 was Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club.

There was a tightly contested battle for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, although a lot of people expected Jennifer Lawrence to take home the award for the second year running. The winner of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar 2014 was Lupita Nyong'o for 12 Years a Slave.

Another of the big awards at the 2014 Oscars was the Best Director gong and there were plenty of big names up for this, with a lot of impressive films being released over the past year. The winner of the Best Director Oscar 2014 was Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity.

Finally we give you the Best Picture Oscar, which many were suggesting was a two-horse race with 12 Years a Slave and Gravity, although it is fair to say that all of the movies were in with a chance of winning. The winner of the Best Picture Oscar 2014 was 12 Years a Slave.

So there we have it for another year. No doubt the Oscars 2015 buzz will begin spread in no time at all, as we begin to get some fantastic movies coming out over the course of the year.
