Imagine a Superman movie, where Robert Downey Jr. plays the infamous villain of the piece Lex Luther. Well, there was a time when this almost came a reality, as director McG has revealed that he was all set to direct his own version of a Superman movie. McG also admits that he was looking at casting Henry Cavill as the man of steel before the project fell through.
McG explained, "We had Robert Downey Jr. locked up to be Lex Luthor, which I think would have been extraordinary. Ironically, we liked Henry Cavill a lot, but we hadn’t cast him yet." He added, "J.J. wrote the script, and we got that to a really good place in the end but I’m to blame for the film not happening."
McG also admitted that he was planning to make his Superman movie into a trilogy but unfortunately things did not quite work out for him. Instead, we have the Zack Snyder directed Man of Steel to look forward. Man of Steel has Henry Cavill in the lead role, along with Amy Adams, Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner. Man of Steel is set to be released on June 14, 2013.
