The Vampire Diaries actor Daniel Gillies, who plays the character Elijah in the hit The CW vampire television series, has revealed how he believes that his character Elijah may come across as bad at times but he does have a good soul. Daniel claims that Elijah has admiration for the human spirit when it actually flourishes and this encourages him to strive for something pure.
Gillies explained, "He wants to just be a good man. He would love to be a good man. I think he admires humanity when it flourishes. Certainly he's seen men and women of genius come and go, you know. When he sees what human excellence can be, he sees everything angelic and everything monstrous, and when he sees humanity trying to reach beyond itself in a sort of transcendental fashion, he adores it.”
He added, "I think Elijah truly just wants to be a good soul. I love that he's striving for something pure. He's failing. But at least he's striving." Daniel Gillies has previously discussed his character Elijah’s issues, claiming that he will be angry at a number of people, including his mother Esther (Alice Evans) and Elena (Nina Dobrev). The Vampire Diaries continues on The CW every Thursday at 8/7c.
