The Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon in the hit The CW vampire television series, has been teasing fans about what to expect from the rest of the season. Ian kicked things off, by talking about Elena (Nina Dobrev) and the sire bond.

The Vampire Diares love triangle
Somerhalder told Zap2It, "Sire bond schmire bond. Damon can't get any true anything. I've come to realise this. It's the tragedy of Damon Salvatore. It's what makes him interesting; it's also what humbles him. But the dude just can't win. If there was a key, and you could just go inside a lock and open up the Pandora's box of the sire bond, I would think that you would open the box and inside would be another box. Or not. Or lack of."
Ian then went on to talk about how the death of Jeremy has affected Elena, "Elena's really stoked now because now the seat stays down on the toilet, there's more food in the refrigerator," he joked, before admitting, "It crushes her. It destroys her."

As for the relationship between Damon and Elena, Somerhalder was careful not to give anything away, "Can they sustain a relationship? Or -- not a relationship, they are in a relationship, but can they sustain a romance? It's hard to sustain anything in Mystic Falls, except, like, a drinking habit. Those seem to be pretty sustainable."
The Vampire Diaries season four does not have many episodes left and continues with the sixteenth episode of the season, titled Bring It On, which airs on The CW on Thursday, March 14. The Vampire Diaries season five has already been given the go ahead and will air on The CW later this year.
