It is starting to feel a little bit like comic book adaptations are beginning to take over the world, as we continue to get a number of comic book projects coming every year, with sequels to already existing movies, as well as crossover projects, television shows and plenty of new characters being introduced. With Marvel dominating the comic book scene, DC are going to have to pull out all the stops to close the gap.
One comic book movie franchise that has enjoyed huge success to date, is the X-Men franchise, which is bringing us another movie later in the year. The biggest character to come from the X-Men franchise is Wolverine and it has already been confirmed that we will be getting a The Wolverine sequel, as well as another X-Men movie, in the coming years.
As we already know, Bryan Singer is returning to make X-Men: Apocalypse, which has its sights set on a May 27, 2016 release date but we have not been told anything about The Wolverine 2, until now. James Mangold has taken to his official Twitter account to confirm that The Wolverine 2 will be released after X-Men: Apocalypse, which means that we will have to wait until 2017 or even as late as 2018 for the next installment.
Mangold's tweet came when a fan asked, "@20CenturyFox @ShuDonner @mang0ld Is the new #Wolverine film coming after #XMenApocalypse???" to which he responded, "@R__E__D_R__U__M @20centuryfox @ShuDonner We are figuring it all out. At the moment, I'm shooting The next #Wolverine after #XmenApocalypse."
It will be interesting to see if Hugh Jackman will return for The Wolverine 2, as he will be around 50 years old and might not want to play Wolverine for another four years. What do you think?
