Lionsgate is predicting 'Divergent' to become the next Hunger Games, so it makes sense that they've decided to cast their actors carefully. They've been going for prestige names, and seem to be putting acting ability over looks or fame. Shailene Woodley beat out a number of better known actresses for the lead role of Tris, and it seems now that Theo James has been able to beat out the rumored favorite, Alex Pettyfer, for the male lead role of Four.

Shailene Woodley is 'Tris' in Divergent
The author of 'Divergent', Veronica Roth, weighed in on James' casting as Four, saying, "Recently I saw Theo James’ screen test with Shailene Woodley, and I was sure within seconds: this was ‘Four,’ no question. Theo is able to capture ‘Four’s’ authority and strength, as well as his depth and sensitivity. He is a perfect match for Shailene’s incredibly strong presence as Tris. I’m thrilled!”
Thus far, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz, and Maggie Q have all joined the supporting cast, with Winslet having a major role in the sequels. Deals for Aaron Eckhart, Miles Teller, and Ray Stevenson are reportedly in progress, but we don't much yet about the roles they will be playing.

Divergent is predicted to become the 'next' Hunger Games
Right now, Divergent is looking like it will live up to Lionsgate's dreams, at least in terms of prestige and star power. Whether the film turns out out to be a huge hit will all depend on how the buzz builds in the months leading up to its release. Divergent is set to come out in March of 2014.
