NBA Forward Thomas Robinson of the Portland Traiblazers is a picture of perseverance and it is starting to pay off for him in 2014. The one-time lottery pick of the Sacramento Kings who is now playing for his third team in less than two years is slowly starting to understand what it takes to be a successful NBA player. When he played for the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets neither team was willing to be patient with him and develop him as a player but he has never lost the belief in himself which could undermine his career.
As a member of the Portland Trailblazers he was relegated to the bench in December 2013 but instead of pouting he continued to work diligently in practice and before games on improving his deficiencies which consisted of his defense and staying calm on the offensive end of the court. Thomas Robinson's mature approach enabled him to be ready when his opportunity presented itself and he was able to prove that he is improving.
In a game against the Orlando Magic on January 8, 2014 he came into the game while the team was playing poorly and his defense, rebounding and scoring helped revitalize his team. The game was important to the team and it also showed his teammates and coaches that he can be an asset to the team. Sometimes when a player is a high draft choice the expectation is that he is going to be a star player or a major contributor immediately but that is rarely accurate. In most situations a new player to the NBA has to learn how to compete against his peers and not players who did not possess similar athleticism or motivation and that is what has happened to Thomas Robinson.
The majority of the NBA may not think that Thomas Robinson is going to ever amount to a productive player but individuals who possess his perseverance and blue collar work-ethic are rarely denied success. It may take until the end of the 2013-14 NBA season or it might even take an additional year but eventually Thomas Robinson is going to become a regular rotation player in the NBA and valuable asset to an NBA team and his success will make some NBA executives have to answer the question of why they gave up on him so quickly.
Success in the professional ranks does not always come early in an athlete's career but to the persistent, hard-working athletes success in their career cannot avoid them and Thomas Robinson is a basketball player who will eventually be successful in the NBA.
