Welsh boxer Nathan Cleverly made another successful defence of his title against American Shawn Hawk in a very one-sided victory. Nathan retained his WBO light heavyweight title and kept his unbeaten record intact, in an easy nights work in Los Angeles last night.

Nathan Cleverly in action
25-year-old Cleverly stopped Hawk in the eighth round and, while he is now undefeated in 25 professional bouts, he now needs to step it up a level. Nathan is clearly talented and was always going to have too much for Hawk but we failed to learn anything new about him.
His last three fights, against Shawn Hawk, Tommy Karpency and Tony Bellew have all been fairly easy for Nathan Cleverly and if he is to be taken seriously as one of the world’s best, he needs to improve his choice of opponent and take on some of the world’s best.

Now is the ideal time for Nathan Cleverly to take on the likes of Chad Dawson or the unbeaten Tavoris Cloud or even Bernard Hopkins. There is no doubting Cleverly’s ability and he has the potential to rule the light heavyweight division for years to come but he needs to make his move now.
