Top Gun star Tom Cruise has spoken out about his friendship of British filmmaker Tony Scott who he worked with on Top Gun, as well as Days of Thunder. Tony Scott was found dead on Sunday, August 19, when he supposedly committed suicide after learning that he had an inoperable brain tumour. He was 68 years old.

Cruise explained, "Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable.” He added, “My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time."
There has previously been reports that Tom Cruise and Tony Scott would be working together on a sequel to the Top Gun movie and it is claimed that the pair met as recently as Friday, August 17 to discuss possible storylines for the movie. Further tributes have been pouring in from around Hollywood for the talented visionary who will clearly be missed.

Tony Scott is the brother of fellow movie director Sir Ridley Scott who is yet to comment on the death of his brother. Tony's other big movies include Beverly Hills Cop 2, True Romance and Unstoppable. Scott leaves behind his wife Donna and twin, 12 year old sons Max and Frank. R.I.P.
