It is still very early in the season but today’s match between Tottenham and Liverpool is likely to have a bearing on the outcome of the final Champions League spot. It seems almost certain that Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City will be fighting it out at the top of the table.
So with just one more place in the Champions League up for grabs, today’s match could turn out to be very important. Arsenal could also be in the running for a Champions League spot but with their poor start to the season and their new signings being uninspiring, it is beginning to look very doubtful.
Liverpool will be without Glen Johnson for the trip to White Hart Lane as he suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury. Steven Gerrard is also unavailable as he is still a week or two away from his return to Premier League action but could feature against Brighton in the Carling Cup in midweek.
Tottenham will be without Aaron Lennon and William Gallas, who are still out with injuries of their own, while Ledley King will face his usual late fitness test. Michael Dawson is definitely out, while Rafael van der Vaart could make his return to the side. Don’t be surprised if this is a 0-0 draw.
