World Cup 2014 in Brazil has been a very interesting and exciting one so far and, while we have seen the likes of Lionel Messi shine and prove that he is arguably the best player on the planet, Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to compete on the global scene at this tournament. With Portugal out of the World Cup, Cristiano is now heading home but there are some fans who are grateful for his help.
Cristiano Ronaldo is heading home

Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Portugal in their match against Ghana, which gave Portugal a 2-1 win, sending the USA through to the knockout stages of the World Cup, finishing second in the group, behind Germany. USA fans have now sent messages of thanks to Cristiano, thanking him for helping the USA to progress in the tournament.

One delighted fan said, "I have so many reasons to thank Ronaldo. Firstly for not turning up and putting on performances to help Portugal go through. But mostly for finally turning up against Ghana, keeping them from getting the win and putting us through to the knockout rounds. To quote Mighty Ducks 2, we're team USA and we're going all the way."

There were plenty more similar messages of thanks for Cristiano Ronaldo from USA fans, although we are not sure that the Portuguese star will be too pleased to receive them. One thing Cristiano can look forward to, is spending some time with his beautiful girlfriend Irina Shayk. Not a bad consolation prize.#
