Actress Vera Farmiga is set to appear in the television series Bates Motel, which is a kind of prequel to the hit movie Psycho. In the show, Vera plays the character Norma Bates, the mother of Norman Bates, and Vera says that she feels the need to defend the character as much as she can.

While talking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Farmiga explained, “I got into this wanting to defend who that woman was. To me, she was such a beautiful portrait of valiant maternity, and therein was the challenge. To me, the story is a beautiful love letter between a mother and her son.”
Meanwhile, executive producer Carlton Cuse (Lost) spoke about what they are trying to acheive with the show, “How does he become the guy in that movie. In Titanic, you root for Kate and Leo to survive, even if you know they aren’t going to. That’s kind of what we’re going for.”
