There was once a time in tennis when the talented star Victoria Azarenka was the top player in the world, although it is fair to say that Serena Williams has been pretty dominate for a long time now. Unfortunately for Victoria, a mixture of a loss of form and injuries saw her slipping down the world rankings, before getting herself back to full fitness and back to her very best.
Well it looks like we could well see Victoria Azarenka making a charge for the world number 1 spot this year, as she has already started very well, including her recent straight sets win over Serena Williams at Indian Wells. Victoria has what it takes to be the best in the game and she has been working hard at improving her game every single day.
Azarenka explained, "I've improved my serve a lot. I'm mentally way happier, and I have people with whom I see no limitations. I'm just very happy that I'm able to do whatever I want on the court. I can move the way I want to move, and [I] see improvements in my game. “This is what keeps me excited, keeps me motivated, and seeing that it works against the best player in the world just brings a little bit extra to work even harder."
She added, "All this time I was setting little goals to improve whatever it is that I want to. Knowing that I could just be better gets me excited,” she said. “That's what helps me wake up in the morning and go after it. There is nothing else I want to do in life right now but give myself the best chance I can to be able to chase my dreams."
It will be interesting to see how Victoria Azarenka fairs at the Grand Slams this year and whether she can beat Serena Williams when it really matters. Watch this space!
