The biggest tennis tournament of the year began today, as first round matches got underway at Wimbledon. There were some big names in action, including the women's World number two Victoria Azarenka, who was first up on court number one.
Victoria Azarenka faced the Portuguese player Koehler and was looking in fantastic shape, as she made light work of her lesser opponent. Victoria was 6-1 1-0 up when she took a tumble, with her knee seeming to buckle underneath her, as she fell to the ground.
The injury seemed very serious, as Victoria Azarenka yelled in pain and rolled around in agony on the floor. The doctor was called onto the court to tend to Azarenka, before she was helped up and limped off for further medical treatment.
After a few minutes, Victoria Azarenka returned to the court with her knee bandaged up and, while she was clearly feeling the pain of the injury, she continued to make light work of Koehler and took the second set 6-2, progressing to the second round of Wimbledon. Hopefully her knee has time to heal before her next match.
