Following the San Diego Comic Con at the weekend, we have been getting a lot of talk about the upcoming Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy, which opens this week. The film boasts an all-star cast, which includes Fast and Furious actor Vin Diesel, who lends his voice to the character Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Vin Diesel has been talking about doing his scenes for Guardians of the Galaxy, admitting that it was the first work that he had done since the death of his good friend, and Fast and Furious co-star, Paul Walker. Vin says that the timing of the movie was very important and helped him to deal with the death of Paul Walker.
Diesel told Collider, "For me, it was at a very important time, when I did this movie, because it was in December, and it was the first time I was coming around humans again and working again. There was something very therapeutic, in my personal life and my professional life, after dealing with death, playing a character that celebrates life, in the way that Groot celebrates life."
As well as addressing how the Guardians of the Galaxy movie helped him to deal with the death of Paul Walker, Vin Diesel also spoke about how he landed the role of Groot in the movie. Vin says that he was approached about playing a Marvel character but was not exactly sure who they wanted him to play.
Diesel added, "I’m new to Marvel. This whole thing started for me with a social media wave that was adamant about me doing something with Marvel, but there really wasn’t a six-month window to do a character at Marvel. So, when Kevin Feige called me and said that he and James were talking about me playing a role, I had no idea what role it would be."
Guardians of the Galaxy will open on July 31 in the UK on then on August 1 in the US.
