Following the success of Fast Five, it was almost a guarantee that they would make a Fast 6 and sure enough, back in June it was confirmed that a sixth instalment of The Fast and the Furious franchise was being made. However, the star of The Fast and the Furious movies, Vin Diesel, has confirmed that they are also set to make a Fast 7, as there is too much story to fit in to one film.
Vin Diesel explained, “With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space” He added, “We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’"
Both of The Fast and the Furious sequels are currently being penned by Chris Morgan, with Justin Lin set to return to the director’s chair. It is expected that both Fast 6 and Fast 7 will be shot at the same time, back to back, releasing them a year apart. It has also been suggested that Michelle Rodriguez will be returning to the franchise.
